Our New Beginning

When Phoenix Arizona experienced its "Wettest day ever" on Monday morning, I admit I was a little worried that the MNF game was going to be affected. Me and my hubby were set to attend the game and had been waiting eagerly for weeks. As I held back my anxiety the sun made an appreciated appearance and it stopped raining. What a relief it was when I saw the official tweet that the game was proceeding as scheduled.

The excitement at University of Phoenix was completely electrifying! So many fans chanting and high fiving one another in passing! A beautiful sea of red and white filled the stadium seats for what was our new beginning! A season opener, a Monday night football game at home with Kurt Warner being inducted into the Cardinals ring of honor! Football was back in full force!  Ahhh, now this was living!

Fans were rewarded when former long-time Cardinals (S) Adrian “A-Dub” Wilson was revealed as a special guest that would be cranking the “Big Red Siren” before and during the game! The Cardinals 18-17 victory against the San Diego Chargers was no small feat. There was fierce competition throughout the game from both sides of the line. In fact we were down 11 points entering the 4th quarter. Our defense certainly showed up to play despite top player injuries and suspensions.

The game time decision to allow RB Andre Ellington to play proved to be beneficial. Ellington, while not fully recovered from his foot injury during practice, managed to carry the ball 13 times for 53 yards. QB Carson Palmer threw for 304 yards; he passed 2 TDs with 0 INT and at the age of 34 was playing intensely with his feet! I always love to see a QB get the 1st down himself. Palmer was confident and that was apparent from the stands. Rookie WR John Brown caught the game winning TD pass from Palmer only minutes before the end of the game.

NFL superstar WR Larry Fitzgerald was open often but simply not thrown the ball which caused some speculation as to why he was not more of a consistent target for Palmer. Head Coach Bruce Arians said afterwards, "You have to ask the quarterback. (Larry) is going out for a pass every time. I don’t look at that. We don’t design plays for guys to get the ball. That’s interceptions waiting to happen." Fitz also commented later via Twitter posting "We're 1-0 & working tirelessly to be 2-0 this week that’s my only concern." Seems to me that Larry is content being here in Arizona and only desires the Cardinals to become a winning team.

I'd like to end with extending my sincerest gratitude to Patrick Peterson (CB). He made my experience at this game one that I will never forget. He graciously and unexpectedly left me Post game family bracelets at Will-Call when I picked up my tickets. This privilege and honor allowed me and the hubby access to after game player and family interactions! We rubbed elbows with the Best team in the NFL and also got to meet P2 himself! All I could say was "Thank You" repeatedly and hug him twice! I must have had an ear to ear grin that could be seen from the across the stadium! P2 is truly a class-act and I’m sure glad he is a part of my team

NFLfemale.com Article Preview

Greetings and Salutations everyone! My name is Stephanie Connery and I am a fan of the Arizona Cardinals! We have a very talented team with some remarkable players on and off the field. This is one of the many reasons why I absolutely LOVE my red birds! The charitable works that these guys do can't go unnoticed. It warms my soul when I see all the good they do for so many people here in the valley and across the world.

My beloved Cardinals are slowly winning over the hearts of fans here in Phoenix, Arizona. With both current and former class act players like Larry Fitzgerald, Kurt Warner, Patrick Peterson and Sam Acho to name a few, how could they not? The hard work they produce every season is greatly appreciated. They never give up and year after year they show us that team is what it really takes in this league.

It was my husband who influenced me into paying more attention to NFL football and how it's played. He taught me to give my allegiance to my team and once I did so, it could never be taken back. You stick with your team no matter what! No wife of his was going to be a fair-weather fan! This was intimidating in the beginning but once I started learning more by watching games, reading sports blogs and following players I started going a little Cardinals crazy! A couple of seasons later I created fan pages on social media sites and have been maintaining them in my spare time for a little over 3 years now.

As we enter the 2014 season, there is some skepticism as to whether or not we will be able to live up to last year's record of 10-6 (being just short of a trip to the playoffs.) We are after all playing in one of the toughest divisions in the league alongside the current Super Bowl Champions, the Seattle Seahawks. We went 1-3 during our pre-season, only winning our first game at home, versus the Texans. But what a fantastic game it was! It turned out to be a blowout, 32-0.

The Cardinals have undoubtedly lost some key players going into this 2014 season. Darryl Washington (ILB) is suspended the entire season for his 2nd violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. Darnell Dockett (DT) was injured during practice and suffered a season ending torn ACL. Tyrann Mathieu (S) was recently removed from the PUP list after his long road of recovery from a torn ACL and LCL last season; however he is not expected to take the field until after our BYE week in week 4. Just this week Andre Ellington (RB) suffered a foot injury during practice. His full injury has yet to be determined and announced.

Our defense may end up in a vulnerable position with the loss of some of our playmakers but we have to believe in "Next Man Up" and allow others to step up and fill those voids. I'm looking forward to the possibility of developing a feared forward passing game. That would be a nice change of pace for the Cards! I suppose I will have to relax, be patient and allow the season to unfold. There is one thing I'm certain about though and that is football is back baby!

Football Trash Talking for Ladies... Doin it Sassy, Not Trashy!

It's that time of year again ladies! NFL Football is back baby! It's time to dust off those jerseys and matching shoes and read up on your teams current players and depth-charts! This truly is the best time of year! The excitement of all the preseason games and preparing for the official season to start. Now is also a good time to polish up your trash talking skills!
Trash talking for ladies is like walking a very fine rope. You don't want to come off as too aggressive yet you do want to sound like you know what you're talking about. I mean trash talking and Football go hand in hand so you know what they say "Practice makes perfect." In this post I will just be giving a little advice on how to be the BEST lady trash talker watching the game! I'll also be sharing some tips that I myself use. I wasn't always the best trash talker but through trial and error I've learned some things and I hope you will as well. So, let's get to it!

Dropping F bombs!
This is a very important tip because you don't want to sound like a sailor, or worse, when you're watching the game, for many reasons. Examples: There may be children present depending on your location. This will not go over well with any parents that are in earshot of you. Reason # 2- Anyone can start yelling obscenities at a football game so that's not really trash talking. To be a successful trash talking lady you have to know what you're talking trash about and be able to describe it in a way with minimal vulgarity. Don't get me wrong, there may be an occasion or so when the F bomb is just going to come out. No worries, It happens to the best of us!
One of my opinions on this is that if you're in the comforts of your own home with only adults let the f-bombs fly! If you're in a public setting or at the actual game it's best to use less colorful words.
Here is an Occasion when I let out one of biggest F-Bombs of all time:

This will forever be a DARK day in Football!

Social Media
Let's be honest watching football and live tweeting is probably one of the greatest luxuries we have! However, there are certain things to practice when using social media during the game. Facebook statuses are NOT meant for play by play game updates! (That's what Twitter was designed for) There's really nothing worse than logging into Facebook and seeing a new status update from the same person every other minute or two. Literally, every two minutes. Twitter is perfect for this because it only allows 140 characters and is much more fast paced. There are no "adding comments" to tweets or "liking" them. Ok sorry I just had to throw that out there.
Now if you're on Twitter and you're ready to start your trash talking you don't want to retweet everything that's coming across your timeline. Chances are you tweet within the same circle of people that are cheering on the same team and therefore are watching the exact same game as you, let's call them your "football homies." Now this is both good and bad. It's good because it's kind of like you're watching the game live with a group of friends but at the same time it's bad because you don't want to say the same thing as everyone else.
A general rule that I follow is I utilize retweets for things that I either agree with, find hilarious or want everyone else to see because of its originality. It's also important to remember that when you are tweeting to throw in little catch phrases or original ideas that instinctively come to you. Listen to that little lady inside of you that remembers past games and seasons, certain players/coaches and memorable team antics. These make for Great Trash Talking Tweets! Yummy!

Go For What You Know
So now you're watching your favorite teams game, things may have started out great but now it's the fourth quarter with 6 minutes left and your offense is falling apart. You need 3 points just to tie the game up. To make things worse you're out of timeouts and your running back looks like he's jogging in place every time he's handed the ball. Did I mention it's 3rd and 22?
If you have no clue as to what any of the above scenario means then you should probably NOT be doing any kind trash talking other than "Boooo." If you still want in on the trash talking action a good idea is to pay attention to the crowd. Oftentimes it's easy to tell what is going on if you can hear the stadium noise. (This also helps if you are running around the house cooking and such during the game.) You will also want to listen for the whistles from the refs. This will indicate a coming penalty. Even if you saw something completely different, the NFL refs have been known to call something ridiculous that could hurt your team.
You may be your teams biggest fan but don't be afraid to criticize them as well. Trash talking isn't just for the opposing team anymore. WARNING: Be very careful of Trash talking your own team. It must be done constructively, graciously and gently. Especially if you are online, your "football homies" may not take too kindly to it. Trust me, Twitter is FULL of at-home football analysts and they are sometimes vicious.

In The End
If you are just starting your trash talking this year or if you are one bad mamma jamma, I hope some of this helps. I may do another post soon that will go into further detail but for now at least this is a general outline to get you started on your way! Follow me on Twitter @AZLadyBirds and feel free to send me some of your best trash talking tweets!

At last! Football is here and upon us yet again! It even seems like it snuck up on me this year! Usually I am stoked with anticipation but I feel like this year I was wishing for it and... POOF! There are so many questions that I ask myself over and over, yet still can't come up with the correct answers. Welp, it's looking like I am just going to swing in the dark until I hit something.
